Creative even when you don't feel like it.

It's dark and rainy today and really a perfect day to stay inside and be productive but it's sooooo hard when all you want to do is cuddle up and read a book. Good thing I've got my son to keep me going. Otherwise, it would be too too tempting to crawl back under the covers.

Do you create only when you feel like it?

I've found that if I wait to create when I feel like it then days can go by without having anything to show for it. But I do still work with my moods. For instance, I've learned to do the wild experimental things on the days I feel like I can conquer the world, and reserve the "get it done" kinds of things for days like today. I don't really feel like stitching. But I do feel like snuggling on the couch and watching a movie. I can stitch a few things at the same time.

Here are a few quotes that really inspire me to "get to work."

"Amateurs look for inspiration; the rest of us just get up and get to work." - chuck close

"People who are not artists often think that artists are inspired. But if you work at your art you don't have time to be inspired". -jamie wyeth

"Just as appetite comes by eating, so work brings inspiration, if inspiration is not discernable at the beginning". -igor stravinsky

Part of my art involves producing elements which becomes part of the artwork. Kind of like I have to mix my paints before I can paint. I get to wander from element to element and lots of time I end up thinking of a new element to make. It is all part of the creative process. Love it all.

Love this post, Jen! I do seem to only make things when I "feel" like it instead of pushing myself a bit and making wise use of my time. I've been struggling with that alot lately.

I just signed up for Kelly rae's e-course. I'm excited to get started!

Love that new birdcage too!

Thanks for this. Today it is cloudy and cold and supposed to rain. It makes me want to curl up on the couch too but I don't think I can bring the paints, maybe some paper and pencil.
have a good one. :)

I sometimes find it difficult to work when I'm not in the mood, but I have discovered that if I can just get out in the studio and start with a small task, like cleaning for 15 minutes or starting the kiln, then I can usually get going. My struggle is when I'm super tired...

It's like exercise isn't it? You don't want to do it, but if you just make start you'll keep on. I am with you on the super tired thing though- I'm on a medication this week and last that really fatigues. Hopefully next week will be better. Lovin' the class though!
